Fluorite Crystals From All Over The World
Fluorite is a favourite mineral here at The Stone Circle. We started our own growing crystal collection with a fluorite octohedron. It remains in our display cabinet to this day. This page will display all of the fluorite specimens we come across here at TSC. There is fluorite in Scotland which you find if you quarry up north in the right places, but it is as rare as hen's lips. What we do find more commonly is Fluorite from England.
The UK has great fluorite down south, mixed with the Blue John. We also resell cool raw fluorite crystals when we buy rough rocks for tumbling. Occasionally we also come across fluorite crystals when we buy out old crystal collections. We are seeing beautiful colours and gorgeous cubic formations.
And what we don't keep for ourselves out of temptation, we pass onto you!

What's So Great About Fluorite?
Fluorite is a fun mineral because it comes in cool crystal structures. If you see a picture of a green or blue mineral specimen which has a square/cube formation, then it is likely fluorite.
As well as interesting cubic crystals, fluorite is interesting due to its makeup. It's crystals combine calcium and fluoride. This puts it in the treacherous position of having a hardness of only 4 on the Mohs scale. This makes it pretty to look at but easily broken...
We sympathise.
What About Scottish Fluorite?
Scottish Fluorite crystals largely come from the north east, up around the area of Ballater. Most of it comes out of mines, just as the best pieces down in Cornwall and the South of England and Wales do.
Scottish fluorite from these mines tends to be yellow in colour, pale blue in colour, or pale green in colour. You may also come across white fluorite up there. Unfortunately, many of the occurrences of Scottish fluorite recorded on Mindat are in the Cairngorms National Park and you cannot remove rocks from National Parks - but it is a good starting point if you are on the hunt for Scottish fluorite.
In other news, we came across the founder of mindat on TikTok recently. You should definitely follow him if you are a rookie rockhound. You can find Jolyon Ralph here and you can follow The Stone Circle for more rock hunting tips while you are in the neighbourhood.
