This piece of Scottish calcite came from a trip to Dumfries and Galloway in early 2025. There are lots of old mine tailings in this area to explore. We went for a rummage and picked up this lovely piece of Scottish calcite. Importantly, we check the map of sites of special scientific interest before each trip to familiarise ourselves with the areas we need to stay away from.

This calcite crystal has lots of crystals all growing on top of one another, as if they are all trying to become the main point. It has a lovely refraction of light when it hits it, giving that sheen that is associated with calcite and marble, making marble such good statues.
