Once in a while we find remarkable specimens of galena which have prominently square crystals. This piece has the tell-tale steely-grey to blue look to it, under a layer of oxidisation. It looks like dust but we promise you that we gave it a real scrub with an electric toothbrush and hot, soapy water.

This is galena, a heavy mineral which is used to make lead. It is one of the ores most commonly used in lead production. We are not selling it for that purpose and for obvious reasons. This is one of the minerals which you should not lick to identify it. Stick it on your mineral shelf and wash your hands after you touch it. this is also not a mineral specimen for crystal healers. It is for display only.

Small but decptively heavy and with lovely crystals in squares, this Scottish galena specimen is ready to find its home on a crystal collector's shelf somewhere.
