Mica Schist with Almondine Garnets, Scottish Highlands Rock Sample (200g 7oz)

We were up in the Highlands last month for one final rock hunt before the bad weather set in. With snow already on the mountains, it looks like we were just in time.

These are stunning almondine garnets in a deep red so dark it looks black. The garnets emerge from the earth inside the mica schist. This piece of Scottish rock has distinctive, angled garnet crystals in a shiny mica shist which sparkles in the light.

This mica schist is hella shiny. It is likely to have more muscovite in it than the usual phylite to chlorite material we collect there. This piece has multiple small but visible garnets. I couldn't even count there are so many.

This piece came from Perthshire though we do have a few new locations to explore for this material, so watch this space.

This is a soft rock specimen, no more than 4 on the Mohs scale. We will wrap it extra tightly for you.

I have a few to list like this one and will copy but alter each description.
