We were up in the Highlands at the end of September 2026 to resupply for winter before the mountains become dangerous. This piece of mica schist with Almondine garnets came from that trip.
This mica with garnets is unusual because we don't find it on quartz like this. The garnets usually erode on lumps of mica. This seems to be a thin garnets rich layer of mica attached to a bold iron stained, orange quartz.
This Scottish Highlands mineral specimen is also freestanding.
This piece came from Perthshire though we do have a few new locations to explore for this material, so watch this space.
This is a soft rock specimen, no more than 4 on the Mohs scale. We will wrap it extra tightly for you.
