This material is strange stuff that we can't quite put a finger on yet. It might take us physically cutting the rock into slices with a bit of transparency so that we can see what is going on inside.
These rocks come from down in Ayrshire where we often find them in chunks. this chunk was cut in half and tumbled in the rock polishing machine we use. It has taken the shine of chalcedony but it is not see-through, which indicates jasper.
Whatever way you look at it, it is a cool rock we found in Scotland.
