I bought a second hand crystal collection online and they did say in the description that it included a few pieces of Onyx.
This particular piece and another like it might even be petrified wood.
Fortunately now when anyone tells me they have Onyx, I already suspect it will actually be banded calcite. This is banded calcite. Doesn't make it less pretty, just more accurate of a description.
It is not chalcedony but does display banding like you would find in agate, hence why it is often mistaken for Onyx.
Anyway! These have been washed and dried, ready for a new home. I think there are 5 pieces. I will copy and paste the description for ease.
