This star-shaped crinoid fossil was found in a river's mouth down in Ayrshire. The area is not known for fossils although quarries a few miles inland are.

Fossils we have from near Beith date 330 million years back or so. I don't know the age of these. It is a different matrix than the limestone fossils from further inland. This appears to be perhaps a clay that the sea lillies died on and were preserved within.

These are unusual because I have only found round shaped crinoid stems in Scotland in the past - and I like to think I have had a good long look by now. Also, they must have washed down from somewhere else. I can't think where.

This is a cool one. There are two pronounced star Crinoids and several opened stalks, as well as regular round Crinoids.

This is a half kilo piece so it's hefty. Definitely a piece for a fossil collector.
