This material looks like common chert on the outside. On the inside it is that deep reddish brown that blues the lines between flint and chalcedony. This is the kind of material that ancient people would knap into arrowheads. This is the type of rock they named the Flintstones after.

This could be cut, polished, or used to make knapped arrowheads. Either way you will be left with something pretty. It is best polished once cracked open so you can see the gorgeous toffee colour inside.

We collect these flint pebbles down in Ayrshire from non-sssi or protected areas. There are old chalk beds offshore in the UK where the chalk is eventually replaced by this flint.
