If you don't know this already, the main purpose of The Stone Circle was initially to find, polish, and sell pretty Scottish rocks. This is one of those Scottish quartz chunks which we find in the Highlands. We only make the trip once or twice a year these days. This year only once.
This piece was collected on our March trip, which was the only one we made this year. Between moving house and car trouble it has been a crazy summer. Now that we are ready, it is almost winter. You can't pass some of the mountain roads in winter. We always judge it by when the first snow falls on the Cairngorms. After that, you have to be really desperate for rocks to hit the slopes.
Anyway. This beautiful chunk of iron rich quartz has yellow to orange iron staining all over it. It is absolutely saturated. It is rare to find a piece so completely orange. It is definitely worth the lapidary work if you have a rock tumbler or gem polisher. It is maybe a hunder to a hundred and fifty grams. I need to move my scales downstairs. In fact. Let me do that right now before I forget.
