This beautiful material is a green hued Basalt. It is an amygdaloidal Basalt, meaning it formed from lava which cooled very slowly. This allowed bubbles to form as gases escaped. The bubblea became filled with sediment, acting as vesicles over time. These bugs fill with ahate, chalcedony, quartz, calcite, and other minerals.
This amygdaloidal vesicular Basalt is from Angus, in the Scottish Highlands, where we went rock hunting in early July 2026.
Trade name for this material is galaxy stone, although in this case the galaxy is green.
This is a big chunk with lots of bubbles, weighing in at 837g
