This is one of our new pre-loved crystals. We just added a special category for them last night and you can now find them all in one delightful place in the menu. This second hand crystal sphere came from an online auction by a loving owner who had outgrown their crystals.
 
I was not sure if this sphere was howlite or marble, so I asked social media. The consensus is howlite. There was an outside possibility of a mineral I have never heard of before. Once I looked it up, it turns out that it is one and the same as howlite - magnesite. Both are chalky white with dark veins... so thank you to that person! Now we know a new mineral. 
 
What do we know about howlite? That it is frequently dyed turquoise coloured to make fake (and much cheaper) turquoise tumble stones. We also know that crystal healers use it for its calming nature. On a geological level, it is a calcium borosilicate. So it shares calcium with calcite, possibly explaining the similarity in colour.
 
A borosillicate is an extra hard glass made with boron and sillica. That's about as much down that rabbit hole as we are prepared to go at this time in the morning.
