We were recently asked if we could provide a client with some of this and thought it might sell, so here we are. This is what we jokingly call 'paint rock' in our rockhunting videos. It is a sedimentary rock that is so rich in iron that you can actually use it to write with. Fans of the page may have seen us use this in past videos.

At one point, we took a rock out of the river, took it home, and used a paintbrush and a little water to paint red-brown on a sheet of white paper. If you get this stuff wet and touch it, it will come away a muddy red colour on your hands.

This stuff forms in Scottish rivers which are rich in iron. The River clyde specifically has a rich hematite content which makes these. This is a massive chunk too. There will be smaller pieces on our Etsy page.
