This piece of Scottish amethyst came from the 2022 trip in the October. We haven't been back yet since. The trip was extremely wet. It was fine climbing th hills but on the way back I got soaked to the skin. It was this trip that made me realise that keeping a dry set of clothes in the car was a survival skill. Nowadays there is a fleece and trousers out there as standard.
Anyway. This rock came from the hills down in Dumfries and Galloway. It features the characteristic dolomite/calcite epimorphs that are familiar to the area. The main host rock has the slight red of iron oxide stianing, often hematite in this area. The rock features a large vein of amethyst set into the host rock with lots of little veins running through it.
This is not a vibrant amethyst and actually has some pink and lavender tones. Throughout the rest of the rock there are veins of amethyst, little druzy pockets, and quartz crystals.
At 747g or 1.6lbs this is a big rock. I can send it abroad but it will eat up a giant chunk of the postage, which is 2kg max outside of the UK.
