Once in a while we come across dolomite in crystal formation. They have lovely defined saddle shaped, or coffin shaped, crystals. This is a deep creamy peach colour with a pretty sparkle of quartz bed under it. The rock has dolomite on both sides.

This piece is about 20g. It was found in 2020 and comes from the Southern Uplands of Scotland. Dolomite is similar to calcite and is often used in building work.
