This piece of fluorite came in a bag of material which was supposed ot go in the rock tumbler. We are a little too woke to be tumbling fluorite alongside the jasper and quartz that were in the bag alongside it, since the fluorite would dissolve to nothing against the hardness of the quartz.

We have two pieces of this. A smaller piece and a larger piece of fluorite. I love this big chunk. We do not have a precise location on the material but it came in one of the rock tumbler mixes we frequently pick up. It is possibly a Chinese mineral. It may have come from the 1kg bag we ordered from Madagascar.

Chinese minerals get a lot of bad press. People automatically assume that they are fake but this is just implicit biased. China produces some of the world's best mineral specimens. It is the mining practices they use which bring their mineral industry into question. Those mining practices are not under scrutiny for child miners or anything like that. As far as we can tell, the issue is in ethical mining practices. The chinese mineral industry (includes oil and gas) makes up a solid 10% of all global emmissions. That is where the problem lies.

But this is a lovely piece of fluorite which was not bought from a sketchy wholesaler, so the chances of contributing to this are slim... especially when you are buying it second-hand from us.

I like this piece. It feels fun. Fluorite has a great energy sometimes. It is one of my favourite types of crystal. I have a wee fluorite collection I will show off on the blog one day.
