Smoky Quartz Crystals
Scotland is famous for Cairngorm Quartz crystals. These smoky quartz crystals were so dark and clear that they earned the name 'morion' in Europe.
Unfortunately the Cairngorm mountain range is now a National Park, and you cannot remove rocks from National Parks without breaking the law.
Luckily Scotland is host to different smoky quartz crystal specimens in both the north and the south. We collect the pebbles, polish them in the rock tumbler, and return them to the people.

Is Your Smoky Quartz Scottish?
Wondering how to tell if a smoky quartz crystal comes from Scotland or not? It is harder than it looks. To find regional crystals look for regional sellers (just like The Stone Circle) who are familiar with the shapes, types, and colours of quartz in their area. They are the best judges over whether or not a piece of smoky Quartz comes from their location or not.
For clarity, The Stone Circle will always label the origin country of our crystals in the title, if we know it. If we do not, we at least say that it is international. You will find our international crystals are clearly marked in the descriptions, too. We describe where we found each crystal, rock, or mineral from the UK, and also record where our second-hand purchases came from on our international specimens.
Why the need for clarity? We have been approached in the past by clients who were sold crystals which they were told were Scottish quartz. These were needle quartz specimens which the seller sold for £8. We had to reassure the client that a needle quartz specimen found in Scotland would be exceedingly more valuable than £8. In fact, the piece she showed us looked like it was from Brazil.
The moral of the Story? You can always trust us to tell you where a rock came from. Less ethical crystal sellers do not follow our lead. Be careful out there and, if you are unsure, always ask.
