Rose Quartz Crystals and Tumblestones

Rose quartz is just quartz which has formed a certain way and in the presence of extreme temperatures. Thought to form inside pegmatites and hydrothermal veins, this quartz manages to capture the hue of the magma which helps form it.

We have yet to find rose quartz in Scotland. We find red and pink quartz all the time but these are caused by iron oxides staining the quartz while it is in the ground.

What is Rose Quartz?

Rose Quartz is a type of crystal. It is a silica based, sedimentary mineral, which forms in old lava beds. As the magma slowly cools, it traps bubbles of sillica-rich liquids, which eventualy evaporate, leaving only the silica behind.

Why is Rose Quartz Pink?

Rose quartz becomes pink during its formation. When that silica-rich groundwater leaks into the bubbles in the slow-cooling magma, it comes into contact with other minerals. In the case of rose quartz, the water has come into contact with iron minerals such as hematite or manganese.

What is Rose Quartz Used For?

Crystal healers use rose quartz to solve matters of the heart. It relates to the heart chakra, although it is pink rather than green. It is widely accepted as the stone of love, with those of a spiritual inclination gifting rose quartz crystals to the people they care about. There is even an old wives' tale about keeping a rose quartz crystal in your bra to attract the love of your life!
