Obsidian Specimens and Tumblestones

Obsidian is a fascinating mineral. It is a favourite here at TSC. There is a story attached but we will show you the minerals before we tell you the story.

Obsidian is not a crystal, it is a type of volcanic glass. It does not fit into the crystal category. It is not a tektite, either, which are the other types of glass which occur naturally. Tektites form when meteorites hit the earth and turn the minerals which are already on the earth molten. Obsidian is not that either.

If you could encapsulate the magma-hot excitement of an erupting volcano. If you could capture that, frozen in time as if it were a drop in the ocean - exactly as if it were a drop in the ocean - then you would get the complete anarchic, organised, flower-of-life style chaos that you get with obsidian.

Yeah we love it. If you liked moldavite and you like crystals, this is your next step.

We don’t have any products to show here right now.
