Customers at The Stone Circle know how much we love a good sticker. From adding them in to your orders to having our own made up that reflect our ethos: collecting cool rocks and having a laugh. This product – the Hinkler Explore Natural Wonders Sticker Mosaic Book – combines both… Just like TSC.

The Natural Wonders Sticker Mosaics book.

What on Earth is a Sticker Mosaic?

A sticker mosaic is absolutely brand new to us – but we have a habit of being late for trends… These books feature complete paintings or pictures of beautiful sites, each of which is dissected up into numbered shards. But the shards are at the back of the book in the form of stickers, with each sticker numbered to add into the dissected image as if it were a paint by numbers.

It is a sticker by numbers, if you like.

What has a Sticker Mosaic got to do with Rocks?

We should probably explain how we became interested in this product. Katriona received a Christmas gift from a friend which included this sticker mosaic book. The friend spotted that it combined geology and stickers and correctly guessed that she would go crazy for it.

This particular sticker mosaic book features landscape pictures of geological wonders. There are waterfalls, mountains, coral reefs, rainbows, hexagonal basalt columns, volcanoes and geyser pools. These are seriously cool pictures on their own for the rock enthusiast and even for the crystal lover.

The Hinkler Explore Kaleidoscope Sticker Mosaic: Natural Wonders

Let’s start with reviewing what you actually get for your money.

What’s in the Book:

  • 15 pictures of natural wonders

  • These include icebergs, desert plateaus, and lakes.

  • Each picture has a corresponding page(s) in the back of the book which contain stickers.

Hexagonal columnular basalt but make it a picture out of stickers.

How Does the Hinkler Explore Sticker Mosaic Book Series Work?

Here is how it works in simple steps:

  • Each image is divided into numbered parts.

  • The numbered parts correspond to sticker numbers at the back of the book.

  • You place each sticker from the back of the book onto the corresponding space on the image.

  • You gradually build and reveal the full picture, one sticker at a time!

What we liked about the Natural Wonders Sticker Mosaic Book?

Primarily this is a relaxing pastime which doesn’t involve a high level of skill. If, like Katriona, you are not artistically gifted, then this allows you to complete awesome natural wonder sites without having to paint them yourself.

Sticker mosaics are less messy than painting by numbers and, by using tweezers to select and

move the stickers, you feel like a professional art restoration specialist. It’s aimed at kids but as an adult you will also enjoy it. This is a super-relaxing activity you can pick up and put down whenever you like.

This led us to wonder if there were any adult versions of this book – normal adult, get your minds out of the gutter – and we went hunting. We did find a few and recommend some at the end.

Another good point about this sticker mosaic book is that you can remove each of the painting/picture pages because they have a perforated edge. This makes it easier to build the image without flipping back and forward all the time.

We also liked that it was cleaner than our other rock-related hobbies.

What we didn’t like about it?

You will see from the pictures of the ones Katie completed that the occasional sticker has fallen off. This also happens as you are building them, with stickers getting caught on your sleeve, pinging off into the void etc.

The middle piece of this sticker jigsaw was lost
It just had to be the middle piece I lost...

The only other qualm we have to report is that one or two of the bigger pictures were dissected into such small parts that it took us ages to tackle it.

How to tackle the sticker mosaic?

Katriona began by placing each sticker in order for ease of finding the next placement. However, this was too easy. So, for the next couple she decided to place the stickers at random. This took a bit longer but felt more like a jigsaw puzzle. When you get to the bigger images with lots of little bits, though, this became very, very time consuming.

Leave us a comment on how you tackled yours? We don’t know which is normal.

Rounding up the Review of the Natural Wonders Sticker Book

Do we love it? Absolutely. Enough to write a review on it on a Saturday afternoon on a snow day. Will we buy more of them? Absolutely. They are peaceful, calming, and you have something nice at the end of it. It is also less damaging to your joints than hand polishing rocks all the time.

We give this a 4.5 meteorite out of 5 meteorite rating.

Will buy again but will find a way to preserve the finished article properly… perhaps with a glass frame.

Sticker Mosaic Book Recommendations (UK)

Other sticker mosaic books by Hinkler which we would definitely try buy for the kids include the beautiful Flora and Fauna Kaleidoscope Sticker Mosaic book, which has detailed, colourful flowers. They also do a Midnight Creatures sticker book which is already in our basket.

A wolf howls against the backdrop of a moonlit hilltop on the cover of this Kaleidoscope Sticker Mosaics book. The title is "Midnight Animals".

The Myths and Legends book also looks pretty class, with a picture of Neptune on the front. You also have access to the Wild Creatures and Neon Nature sticker albums, too.

We have only tried the one type of sticker mosaic book, but we don’t want to appear brand specific. Other makes of this produce we might try include the Pop Art animals sticker book or the Stickers by Numbers Ocean adults sticker  books by Igloo.

Sticker Mosaic Book Recommendations (US)

Other sticker mosaic books by Hinkler which we would definitely try buy for the kids include the other Kaleidoscope Pictures like the Wild Creatures book. This one has wild animals inside. They do a Neon Natural one and a Mythical Creatures sticker book which kids would love.

We like the look of the Masterpieces Paint by Sticker set when it comes to other brands. It just feels more adult. If you want a real challenge as a proper grown-up, then the Sticker by Number Brain Games book will keep you on your toes. We also love the look of the Animetrics sticker-by-number designs, which have a geometrical aesthetic.

Rounding Up.

If you have a favourite feel free to recommend it in the comments section. Otherwise, enjoy your favourite new hobby. Ideal for keeping you calm.
