Renewing The Stone Circle’s Commitment to Recycling in 2026

TSC was birthed from the idea that Scottish rocks could be beautiful, and that the beauty we find in the natural world around us is worth preserving.

As such, our rocks are not mined but found in loose gravels. They are picked up, brought home, cleaned up, and shipped out.

We also opened the floor in 2025 to buying up and recycling formerly loved crystal collections. You can donate or sell your old rock collection on our dedicated rock recycling page. We now consider it our moral obligation to rehouse unloved rocks.

Dedicated to Recycling – Even Our Packaging!

We are constantly reviewing our packaging process to streamline it to something better. We try to use recycled brown packaging paper. We pick it up wherever we find it because we go through a lot of brown paper… however, all of the paper packaging we use is recyclable. So even if it’s Christmas and we change to our green packing paper, you know you can pop it into the recycling bin!

We want to make as little of a negative environmental impact as possible while simultaneously impacting as much positive change as we can.

Is Stone Circle Packaging Compostable?

While we don’t know about the Christmas wrap and bearing in mind that you shouldn’t put paper that has been dyed into your compost heat, our regular brown kraft packaging is actually compostable. A little paper and/or card is good for the compost bin. Just don’t overload it. Also, rip it up to give the wee wormies a chance.

The Stone Circle Tree Planting Commitment

We were approached by a customer with a large crystal collection which was beautiful, but which we could not afford to buy. Later, that customer returned and donated the collection as they were moving abroad.

After talking things through with this customer, we decided between us that we would make a charitable donation once we sold the collection. This has turned into Katriona spending a half-hour each month going through the sales, adding up how much was made from donations, and giving a portion of that money to charity.

Between us, we decided that planting trees in Scotland – a lifelong goal of our founder – would be a worthwhile allocation of those funds.

We have decided to donate via The National Trust as they can dedicate saplings one at a time. This will allow us to start a “Tree Counter”, which we will move to the recycling section on the home page of our website (that we haven’t built yet, but will!).

The Tree Counter has just begun in the month of August 2026 with one single tree. If anyone thinks of a good phrase to dedicate the trees to, please comment below. For now we can only label them as dedicated to the rock lovers of Scotland. But if you have something better, we are eager to hear it.

Our first tree is being planted on the Ben Lawers nature reserve in Perthshire.

What About Plastic Packaging?

There are times when it is necessary for us to use bubble wrap to protect fragile rocks and crystals. This is standard industry procedure but does rub us the wrong way.

We keep all of the bubble wrap sent to us with old crystal collections and we reuse it. If you have bubble wrap with your Stone Circle order and it looks a bit worse for wear, that’s because it is. We refuse to buy plastic packaging.

That being said, we are always short on packaging pellets. If we do buy some, it will be the ones that dissolve in water. We will tell you if this is the case though. Please don’t dunk your package. It was prepared with love.

Stickers and Tape – All Recyclable!

We are so meticulous about our commitment to improving the world a bit at a time that we even use recycled paper tape and paper stickers. Each package we post does contain at least one vinyl sticker – which we know is plastic – but which we are reassured is reusable.
