I am about to list a bunch of calcite so skip this paragraph if you have already looked at our calcite crystal products today. Calcite is used in crystal healing as a rebuilder, a stone that will help you make something of yourself. It has a calming energy. It comes in a variety of colours and many, many different shapes and sizes. We routinely find Scottish calcite which has a pink tinge to it because of the iron oxides in the soil. We also routinely recieve calcite crystals when we buy up old crystal collections.
This piece of calcite was brought into the rock room via a full crystal collection we bought at auction. It has been waiting in the "to be listed" box for a couple of months. I love calcites like this. That waxy lustre makes me want to hold onto them. Also, it makes them incredibly slippy when you give them a soap and water bath. They end up all over the kitchen.
This calcite is a lovely light blue colour. It's inconsistency of that blue tells me it is a real one. The blue colour in the calcite might be strontium (mindat forum, not proven, there is a good link to a paper there though regarding what makes blue rocks blue) or it could be a mixture of other elements, fractures in the rock, light play, or a bunch of other things. Usually though, there is a mineral at fault.
This is lovely. I really like it.
