We sell galaxy stones when we come across them because they are really pretty. These Scottish stones are formed when lava cools slowly, leaving bubbles of trapped air. Over the years, heavy rains wash minerals down and into the bubbles, and you get these vugs of mineralisation in the lava rock.

The black part of these is the lava, the bubbles are the coloured parts. This galaxy stone from Scotland has a large white vug in it, with a few dots on the back. It also has the green line shape of a crystal indentation on it, where a crystal has been but has eroded away.

Lava rock is very cool.

These come from Ayrshire and this one was collected literally last week, the third week of January 2026.
