This smash-your-own-geode showed up in our collection away back in 2020 - to the point where I am not sure where we picked it up. On a guess I would say either the Lead Mining Museum or Creetown Gem Museum. It might even have been a random crystal shop purchase.

There were more of them. I'm sure we had three and I gave the other two to my mate's kids because every kid loves to smash open their own crystals. These make brilliant Christmas presents and/or stocking fillers.

The majority of these geodes come from Brazil and I have no reason to believe that this one does not come from Brazil.

When you smash these open, they are glittery and white inside with a lovely quartz druzy blanket. They sparkle in daylight and look brilliant displayed in a mineral cabinet.

To Break These Open...

To smash these open you should use an adult, who is using a hammer. The best way to do this is with eye protection on. Get around this a little by covered the geode in a piece of cloth before you hammer it. Be warned though, that you may well make holes in the cloth as a result. At least your eyes will be fine though.

Cover it, make sure the kids are a safe distance away, and give it a good whack with the hammer. It will break open and display the goods.

We don't even know what to charge for this. Let me check google.

Ideal rock and mineral STEM toy/gift.

We only have one of these but you can pick up a whole pack of geodes from National Geographic if you find your kids love it and we are sold out. You can also read about other STEM toys and gifts in The Stone Circle Rock Blog.
