These are the first pieces of porphyry that we have polished here at TSC. We find these in the River Clyde and throughout the Ayrshire waterways. Some are red and orange speckled, these two are brownish red.
Porphyry was valued by the ancient Romans. It comes in a deep red to purple colour and purple was obviously the Imperial colour. It has a long history of quarrying as a preferred stone for slabs, tiling, and decorative stonework.
These two are Ayrshire pieces but we hope to have more in soon.
