We have four of the famous Preseli Bluestone rocks which can only be found in the Preseli Mountains, down in Wales. These were sent to us as part of an old crystal collection which a client donated so that they could find new, loving homes.
Preseli Bluestone is a rock which creates a unique blue colour when it is sliced, although some pieces appear green rather than blue when you polish them.
Preseli bluestone is an igneous rock, specifically a dolerite. It contains large crystals of other minerals which float to the top during formation. Just like if you shake a flour and butter mix, the largest particles will always rise to the top - so it is with melted rocks.
In the case of Preseli Bluestone, the large crystals present are made from a mix of diopside, quartz, biotite, hematite, limonite, and other bits. The large white particles are commonly called feldspars. The darker dots in the matrix are the iron minerals - the hematite and limonite.
The most interesting thing about this material is that it is found in the rocks at Stonehenge and is sometimes referred to as the Stonehenge rock. Somehow, someone long ago quarried this rock, thought it was the most amazing material ever, and transported it an impressive distance to build stonehenge with. Before the invention of the vehicle. Poor horses.
These are palmstones. We have four of them. They have been found by the original seller and polished to be sold on. We are the second owners and you would be the third.
Worth mentioning for the crystal healers out there: this material is freezing cold. It has been under by forearm the whole time I have been writing this and they are still cold. It's a little unsettling. My house is pretty warm.
Also worth mentioning is the note which these come with. The note points out that they were from the Preseli mountains but not from protected areas. Knowing what we know about the gold panning and mineral collection rules in Wales, we thought it was worth repeating. We will include a picture of the note, too.
