This pebble was picked out of the burn in South Ayrshire and brought home. I tumbled it through four grit stages plus a burnish in soap between each stage and at the end, after a polish stage. I thought this was Scottish marble. I am still not convinced that it isn't. However, it failed the hardness test for marble and quartz did not scratch it, which tells me it is actually a silica mineral rather than a calcium based one.
As I say, it looks like marble AKA Scottish greenstone. Then I thought perhaps it was prehnite, but it doesn't look much like the prehnite we find in Scotland. I am a bit baffled. What I do know is that it is a lovely light green colour, and that it has taken an OK shine, not a mirror one.
This stone feels nice. That is all I have.
